The story of a young boy who attempts to escape from the brick kiln where he is forced to work as a bonded labor slave in India.
Does slavery still exist? In modern Maharashtra, Kavi, perhaps 10, lives with his parents at a brickworks, where his father is indentured. The energetic Kavi sees himself as the boss's fastest worker. In the family's single room - with a metal door an overseer bangs each day to call the workforce - there's a small plant the family calls its farm. The boss seems to appreciate Kavi's enthusiasm, but a beating is never far away. Besides pride in his industry, Kavi has dreams: to join other boys in a game of cricket and to go to school. His parents tell him it's not for him. Then, Kavi has a brief encounter with two men asking questions about the brickyard. What should Kavi do? How much should he risk?

第550部。本来五十部看一部库布里克,但是最近看片状态不好遂作罢。很成熟的学生作品。
最后结尾镜头 踩泥 印象深刻
消逝的童年。结尾的脚印,和《指匠情挑》(《小姐》)的撕书异曲同工,反叛、复仇、摧毁、新生。

通过小男孩卡维的视角,曝光了私人造砖厂对工人的非法奴役。本片的构图、调色及用光都很出彩,着力展现了暖色调背后的阴冷与残酷。
假如没有触及悲剧的实质,一切滥情都是隔靴搔痒。
