A portrait of teenagers during their last year at Hanna Highschool in Brownsville, Texas. A feature film taking a tougher look on reality than any documentary.
Situated on the Mexican border, Hanna High School is a place of daily tragedies. Cocaine-addicted cheerleaders, patriotic ROTC-students, gang members and Mexican girls in search of a husband, collide in this story. And yet, they have a lot in common. At school, they swear on the American flag, dream of white picket fences and fancy cars, but when they leave reality strikes them like an incurable disease.

反思的现实主义的风格，晃晃悠悠的感觉有点像《大象》。
平缓纪录式叙事，有力而急促的高潮，稳而出彩的群相刻画。他们生活就这样实实在在展现在观众眼前。没有煽情讽刺悲悯的叙事态度让这帮孩子无法触及所谓“美国梦”生活的悲剧慢慢融入观者的心。愈看到后面积累的绝望情绪在心中愈难散去。而似乎戛然而止温情的结局，因其“这样的生活还要继续”更加震撼！
