短片讲述了外来打工青年雷大志的一段窘迫的生活和工作状态，借以探究小人物的生存状态和生存方向及方式。父母为他起名大志，希望他有大志并有大成，然而这个世界90%的人都活成了平凡的小人物，甚至连小人物也活得如此蝼蚁、如此压抑。但他却不能告诉父母真实情况，只能假以善意的欺骗。 \"The Way\" is a short film produced in 2016. Shengxun Lu is both director and screenwriter. This short film tells the story of Dazhi Lei's life during a personal and professional crisis. As a young migrant worker, he struggled in life. The story explores the existence of an ordinary person, a \"nobody\", as he trudges through life. In Chinese, \"Dazhi\" means \"great ambitions,\" and his parents bestowed him with this name in hopes that he would have great ambition and success. However, like all the 90% of humanity, he lives life as an ordinary person. As a \"nobody\", his existence is akin to a mere ant in a colony. But he couldn't trouble his parents with this truth, so he could only deceive in good faith. Dazhi devoted himself to his work, but he would still be disposable. A project proposal he had poured his efforts into was rejected. Pushed to the brink by his dismissal, he tossed his proposal into the trash in anger. He would later be awakened by a phone call from a friend, urging him to pay back his debts. He promised to return the money immediately once his project proposal comes to fruition, meanwhile that very same proposal is still lying in his trash. Drifting back asleep, he dreamed of standing on the seashore, hesitating as to whether to sink into the depths of the sea. He fantasized about becoming a turtle, swimming freely in the water, but the scene looks more like an aquarium worker viewing a glass water tank. To survive, he sold products in a street market. It is common fate for those expelled by city management. A girl with a gentle voice would give him a counterfeit hundred yuan bill. However, he did not pursue it; instead, he angrily packed his things and went home. With only a bowl of white rice in the refrigerator, he sat in the living room and consumes it silently. Suddenly the lights went off, and the house was engulfed in darkness. He knew there was a power outage because he didn't pay the electricity bill. He continued to fill his mouth with food, stopping for a moment to cry tears of bitterness. He wiped the tears from the corner of his eye, retrieved his project proposal from the garbage, and began to revise it under the dim glow of a candlelight. Then he went to an Internet cafe where modifications to his project plan were finally completed at dawn. However, when he arrived home, he found that the landlord had already changed the his door lock because he was in arrears with his rent. It was all he could do to lie down on a park bench until the next morning. The next day, he bought the cheapest toothbrush he could find, brushed his teeth and washed his face in a public bathroom, and then went to the company with the project. After leaving the company, he met a man singing in an underground passage. They looked at each other's eyes for a long time. He took 10 RMB from the few bills he had left, put it in the singer's hat, and then went away. He didn't know where to go, so he arrived at a square, sat under a tree, and listened to the sounds of the court, watching the hustle and bustle of the yard as his mind was blank. A man handing out came over to him and handed him a cigarette, but he declined. The two chatted briefly, and the young man got up and left. Dazhi looked at the young man's back for a long time, deep in thought, and finally gets on a minibus and leaves.
