一个看似完美的家庭，在生下一名天生有缺陷的婴儿后便濒临破碎。
茱莉亚出生后便有缺陷，可能随时都得面临夭折的命运，她的父亲马克(Eric Close饰)无法接受这个事实，离家出走。她的母亲戴安步派克(Kimberly Williams (I)饰)发现其实在生命中还是能有许多的贵人相助，像是她的母亲汉娜(Blair Brown饰)、以及一位乐观的年轻女孩艾美(Alexa Vega饰)，还有她前夫的兄弟大卫(Campbell Scott饰)身为一名医师，不时尽心尽力的照顾茱莉亚。当然，茱莉亚本身也带给了母亲很大的鼓舞。
